A Milestone at Sea: Morgenster Crosses the Equator
Some milestones in life leave an imprint that lasts forever. For the crew and guests aboard the Tall Ship Morgenster, the crossing of the equator was one such moment. A blend of tradition, adventure, camaraderie, and deep connection with the ocean.
Having departed from the Cape Verde Islands, Morgenster has now successfully sailed into the Southern Hemisphere, for her first time, arriving along the tropical coast of northern Brazil. This leg of the voyage wasn’t just about navigating the Atlantic, it was about transformation, resilience, and celebration.
Welcome to the Ancient Order of the Deep
Crossing the equator on a sailing ship is more than a geographic marker. It’s a rite of passage. With a blend of maritime tradition and light-hearted theatre, the Neptunus Rex ceremony initiated all “Pollywogs” (those who had never crossed before) into “Shellbacks”, honorary members of the Ancient Order of the Deep.
With Neptunus himself rising from the deep (well disguised as a crew member), and the tropical sun blazing above, the crew held the traditional ceremony with great joy. From playful rituals to the issuing of the Shellback Certificates, this moment stitched itself into the collective memory of all aboard.
Life Onboard: Between Sky and Sea
Daily life at sea took on a rhythm of its own: Celestial navigation lessons brought sailors closer to the stars. Morning yoga on the deck kept minds and bodies aligned. Conversations and laughter floated between watch duties, meals, and sunsets. At times, silence took over, the kind that only the open ocean can gift. One participant quietly watched the waves and sky shift hues for hours, embodying the awe and humility this journey evokes.
Dolphins, Tradewinds, and Shared Purpose
Pods of dolphins accompanied Morgenster through equatorial waters, drawing smiles and cheers from the deck. The trade winds filled our sails, carrying us gently southward into warmer seas. The ship, the ocean, and its people moved as one.
Guests left heartfelt thank-you notes, appreciating the safe hands of the crew and the soulful nature of the journey.
🇧🇷 Landfall: Hello Brazil!
As the coast of Brazil unfolded on the horizon, cheers erupted on deck. The sea voyage had ended, but something new had begun. Morgenster is now anchored near Belém, where she will serve as a floating inspiration during the upcoming COP convention. Sharing stories of sustainable travel, wind-powered adventure, and human connection.
