Tall Ship Morgenster 40th anniversary

40 Years of Sail Training Celebrate with Tall Ship Morgenster!

Four decades of adventure, thousands of nautical miles, and countless unforgettable memories. On November 7, 2026, Tall Ship Morgenster celebrates a remarkable milestone: 40 years in the world of sail training!

And what better place to celebrate than Willemsoord in Den Helder, our historic home port, surrounded by fellow traditional sailing ships and maritime enthusiasts during the annual Traditionele Schepenbeurs

40 Years of Adventure Under Sail

For four decades, Morgenster has brought people together through the extraordinary experience of traditional sailing. From adventurous ocean crossings to international Tall Ships Races, youth sail training programs, and relaxing coastal voyages, our beautiful clipper brig has introduced generations of sailors to the magic of life at sea.

Some joined us as complete beginners, unsure which rope to pull. Others arrived with years of sailing experience. Yet everyone soon discovered the same thing: aboard Morgenster, teamwork matters more than titles, and the sea has a wonderful way of turning strangers into friends.

Over the years, trainees have learned to steer, navigate, handle sails, and work together in challenging conditions. Many returned for another adventure, while others eventually became part of our professional or volunteer crew.

And yes, after 40 years, we’re still explaining that every rope has a name!

A Historic Ship with a Remarkable Story

Morgenster’s history stretches back much further than these 40 years. Originally launched as a fishing vessel in 1919, she experienced several transformations before becoming the impressive square-rigged sail training vessel we know today.

Following an extensive reconstruction, Morgenster returned to service in 2008 as a clipper brig, ready to welcome trainees and guests on sailing adventures around the world.

Today, her traditional rigging, experienced crew, and remarkable sailing characteristics continue to inspire maritime enthusiasts of all ages.

Morgenster isn’t simply a ship that preserves maritime history. She’s a ship that continues to make it.

Celebrate with Us at Willemsoord!

On Saturday, November 7, we’ll celebrate this special anniversary during the Traditionele Schepenbeurs, taking place from November 6 to 8 at Willemsoord in Den Helder.

This annual maritime gathering brings together traditional ships, skilled craftspeople, sailing professionals, and everyone who appreciates our seafaring heritage.

It’s the perfect occasion to look back at four decades of adventure, share a few salty stories, reconnect with familiar faces, and look forward to many more voyages.

To our former trainees, guests, volunteers, professional crew members, friends, and supporters: thank you for being part of the Morgenster story.

Without your enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to occasionally pull the wrong rope before learning the right one, these 40 years would never have been the same.

The Next Chapter Is Already on the Horizon

While we’re celebrating our past, we’re certainly not ready to lower the sails!

Preparations for the 2027 sailing season are already underway, and several exciting voyages are available for booking.

Whether you sailed aboard Morgenster years ago or have always dreamed of experiencing a traditional tall ship, there’s no better time to become part of her continuing story.

And if our stories inspire you to experience the adventure firsthand, explore our upcoming voyages and reserve your berth for 2027.

Forty years of sail training and still plenty of ocean ahead.

Fair winds and see you aboard!
